Text messages from ZeroVote
Last updated October 12, 2026
ZeroVote texts people for two reasons only: a sign-in code they asked for, or a ballot link for an election they were invited to. We never send marketing or promotional texts.
Texts are always optional
Nobody has to agree to text messages to use ZeroVote or to vote. Everything works by email: anyone can sign in with an email address and password or with Google, and an organizer can invite any voter by email. Agreeing to texts is a separate checkbox that starts unticked, and it is never part of accepting our terms or creating an account.
1. Sign-in codes
A person can choose to sign in with their phone number at zerovote.app/auth instead of email or Google. They enter their own number and tick a separate, unticked checkbox agreeing to the text. No code can be requested until they do.
Phone number
Optional — you can use email or Google instead. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Terms · Privacy Policy
One code is sent per request, with no further messages. A number can be sent at most one code a minute and five an hour.
2. Election invitations
An election organizer — a club, board, union or similar group — invites its own members to vote, by email or — only for members who agreed to it — by phone. Texting is never required: every voter can be invited by email instead. Before anyone on a roster is texted, the organizer must tick a confirmation that those members agreed to receive texts about the election. The election cannot be created without it, and we record when the confirmation was given.
About 3 texts each, and they can reply STOP anytime. Invite anyone who hasn't agreed by email. About our texts
The first text each voter receives says who it is from and how to opt out. Each voter gets about three texts per election, and an election can text at most 25 voters.
3. Joining through a link
An organizer can share one link to their election instead of collecting numbers. Someone who opens it enters their own name and number and ticks a separate, unticked checkbox agreeing to the texts. They get one code to confirm the number, and the result when it's published. Depending on how the organizer set up the election, they can then vote at once or once the organizer lets them in. Their ballot link is shown in their browser, never texted.
