Terms of Service
Last updated October 12, 2026
These terms cover using ZeroVote to run or vote in an election. By creating an account or using a ballot link, you agree to them. Agreeing to these terms does not mean agreeing to receive text messages — that is a separate, optional choice.
The service
ZeroVote lets an organizer run a secret-ballot election: they set the options and the schedule and invite voters, voters cast encrypted ballots, and the result is revealed to everyone at the time the organizer chose. How it works, and its limits, are set out on How it works.
Organizers
You are responsible for the elections you run. In particular:
- Only invite people who agreed to be contacted about your election. Before anyone is invited by text, you must confirm they agreed to receive texts about it.
- Invite only the people entitled to vote, and each of them once.
- Don't use ZeroVote to send spam, to harass anyone, or for anything unlawful.
Once invites are sent, an election's schedule is fixed and it cannot be deleted. That is what lets voters trust the result.
Voters
Your ballot link is yours alone: anyone who has it can cast your ballot, so don't share it. If you think someone else used it, ask the organizer for a new invite.
Text messages
ZeroVote sends texts in three cases: a one-time code when you sign in or ask to join an election by phone; when an organizer invites you by phone, your ballot link, a notice if that link is used, and the result; and when you join through a shared link, the result. Every message we send.
Texts are optional. You receive them only if you tick the box asking for a code — to sign in, or to join an election through its link — or if you agreed with an organizer to be invited by phone. Agreeing is never a condition of using ZeroVote or of voting: you can sign in with email or Google, and be invited by email.
- Frequency: varies. One text per sign-in code requested, and about three per election you are invited to.
- Cost: message and data rates may apply.
- Stopping: reply STOP to opt out. You'll get one confirmation and no further texts. Reply HELP for help, or write to support@zerovote.app.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
How phone numbers are handled is covered by our Privacy Policy.
No warranty
ZeroVote is provided as is. We work to keep it available and correct, and every result can be independently recounted from the public record, but we don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from its use.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the date at the top changes when we do. Questions go to support@zerovote.app.
